Education
To provide graduates planning a career in Journalism (print, electronic or online) with a ten-week internship at a local community newspaper in the summer of 2024.
Criteria
- Available to graduates of all secondary high schools within the Northshore School District.
- Intern to work as a full-time reporter at the newspaper for a 10-week period following graduation.
- Applicant intends to attend a two- or four-year program to secure a degree in Journalism or related field.
- Participation in high school activities utilizing interest and experience in journalism endeavors will be considered.
- Financial need is a consideration.
- Candidates will provide a written essay describing career plans and life goals.
- Letter of recommendation from a teacher or a professional in the field of Journalism may be provided but is not required.
Requirements
- Finalists will be chosen by the Foundation’s sponsor and management of the newspaper.
- The Scholarship sponsor will participate in finalist interviews and make final selection.

About the Sponsor
The scholarship is sponsored by Arlene Bryant of Woodinville whose journalism career included reporting and editing for newspapers throughout the greater Seattle area, including 25 years with The Seattle Times and earlier at the Northshore Citizen. The scholarship is intended to support local journalism and recognize the vital importance of informed citizens in a democratic society.
